DEATH RELIEVED AFTER SIXTY FOUR YEARS OF PILGRIMAGE HERE BELOW.
Last Friday death came to relieve the suffering of Walter Hewitt of this city at the age of sixty-four years. He was born in Erie County, Penn. and in 1855 came to this city for the first time, but afterwards moved to Wisconsin for a few years, not being satisfied, he returned to this city where he has made his home since. In 1855, he was married to Miss Elizabeth Gardner and to them was born three children Mrs. E.R. Bennett of this city, George of Martell, Wis., and Frank Hewitt of Durand Wis., all of whom were present to shed the tear of love and sympathy with their aged and beloved mother.
The funeral services were held Sunday afternoon, Rev. C.H. Plummer officiating. Mr. Hewitt was an honest hardworking man often working far beyond his strength. His death was caused by cancer of the liver.

Walter Hewitt was listed in the 1880 census of Buffalo County, Wisconsin as age 47 born in Pennslyvania, Elizabeth his wife age 46 born in New York. Also listed as a son was George Hewitt who was born in Minnesota.

Note: Lyman did not move to Buffalo Co. with the rest of his family. He was living in St. Marie Twp, Green Lake Co, WI in 1860. He was a farmer in Fillmore Co, Minn. in 1870. Later moved to Nevada as a carpenter and finally in Sacramento, Calif. working in the shipyards.

ALFRED HEWITT
Alfred Hewitt, an old and highly respected citizen of Lake City died suddenly at his home, No, 807 North Oake Street. Sunday morning. The direct cause of his death was heart failure. He had been in his usual health Saturday, and in the evening went to the postoffice for the mail. He had not complained of feeling poor upon retiring, but while dressing Sunday morning Mrs. Hewitt and her son Roy heard heavy breathing and by the time they reached his side he had passed away. He did not seem to have suffered pain and his death was peaceful.
Alfred Hewitt was 59 years of age, having been born in Pittsburg, Pa. May 17, 1845. In 1866 he was married to Miss Chloe Read, at Alma , Wis and 26 years ago they came to Minnesota settling in Lake City, where he followed the occupation of teamster. Before coming to Lake City he operated a Wisconsin Farm. On Aug 12, 1862 he enlisted in Company G. 25th Wisconsin, and served until Aug. 12, 1865, when he was honorably discharged. He was a member of the order of Major Doughty, Posts. G.A.R., of this city, and was also a member of the order of Redmen. He served as city Marshall in Lake City for two years.
His surviving relatives are his widow and six children, Edwin of Kenna, Wis. M.A. of Basin, Mont., Wyman and Roy of Lake City, Mrs. B. E. Hitchcock, Butte, Mont. and Miss Irene of Lake City. The funeral services were held from the M.E. church this Wednesday afternoon at 2 o'clock, the Rev. Craig, officiating, with the members of the G. A. R. and the ladies Circle in charge. Mrs. Nihart of Durand, Wis., and Edwin Hewitt of Kenna, Wis., were in attendance.
The deceased had made may friends during his residence in Lake City, and his sudden taking off was a blow to those who knew him. The sympathy of all is extended to the sorrowing family in their hour of sorrow.

He was Mustered Out on 6/7/1865 at Crystal Springs, MD
