Death: 6 MAY 1675 Swansea, Bristol, MA
Note: William emigrated on the ship 'Bevis' with his wife, four children and his father William from Southampton on 2 May 1638, bound for New England. Both Williams are listed as 'carpenters' of "Horwell" (Wherwell, Hampshire). It is likely that their stay in Wherwell was brief, possibly no more than preparation for the voyage, as they had resided in Shalbourne, Wiltshire until fairly recent (Shalbourne record of a burial of Alice Carpenter on 25 Jan 1637/38, who 'may' have been William's mother). Where William was born is not known exactly yet. He was married in Shalbourne, five children were baptised in Shalbourne (one died before emigration), The baptism of the fifth child in 1636/7 lists William as "Junior". It is believed that sometime between 1634 and 1636/7 William was joined by William (Sr) at Shalbourne and that neither William was native to that parish - there is no baptism record of William (Jr) at Shalbourne.
William became a freeman in Weymouth MA on 13 May 1640. In 1643 the family moved to Rehoboth (known as Seekonk at the time), joining Weymouth minister Samuel Newman in establishing that town. He was town clerk of Rehoboth from 1643 to mid- 1649.
The birth dates of the last two of William and Abigail's children were listed in the Quaker manner.
Death: 7 FEB 1657/58 Rehoboth, Bristol, MA
Note: William, the progenitor of the Rehoboth Carpenter family, came to America with his son in the ship "Bevis" which sailed in May 1638. He was registered as a carpenter by trade and lived in the City of London, England. He returned to England
