Note: In 1830, he lived in Whitestown, Oneida Co, NY. In 1840, he was living next to Roswell Richmond in Truxton, Cortland Co., NY.
The family immigrated sometime in the 1850's first to Dane Co., Wis. for about one year and then to Indian Lands, Marquette County, Wis.[ later called Crystal Lake Township]. He purchased 40 acres of land in Wisconsin on 1 Oct. 1858 and another 40 acres in 1869. They lived next door to James & Sarah Gaffney in 1860.
Esther [Richmond] Coon and Sarah Gaffney's mother, Jerusha [Richmond] Hewitt were probably cousins, which may have been the reason they all migrated to Wisconsin in the same area. One of Sarah Gaffney's daughters was named Rosetta after Esther's sister.
The Coon and Richmond connection appears to have gone back a couple of generations since Esther had a brother, Daniel Coon Richmond.
Montello Express: Ambrose Coon, an early settler in Crystal Lake died of paralysis, on Sunday last. 3 March.
