Note: John Parmenter's move to Bures St. Mary, Suffolk, about the time of his father's death may have been related to his trade. Probate records indicate that both he and his son, John Jr., were tailors, and the fact that his father did not leave him any land in his will. He emigrated to New England from Great Yarmouth in 1639 with his wife, Bridget, and children, Mary and John. Accompanying the family was Elizabeth Loker, widow of Henry Loker, and two of her sons, John Loker and Henry Loker.
The Parmenter residence was adjacent to the corner of Bow and Concord roads in what is now the town of Wayland, Massachusetts. John Parmenter was granted freeman status on May 13, 1640, on the same date as his son-in-law, John Woods.
John Parmenter was active in town affairs throughout his residence in Sudbury, and a Deacon of the Sudbury Church. After his second marriage he moved to Roxbury, Massachusetts, where he died. Annis Parmenter was buried in Roxbury on March 17, 1682/3. An entry in the Roxbury church record states, "Old Mother Parminter, a blessed Saint."
