Note: He was a clothier, pursing the business of his father and ancestors for generations. His estates were designated Ludborne, Horningsham, and Ripond Mylls. Ripond Mylls were located in Frome Selwood, a few miles from Westbury. Frome Selwood was so named because it is near the the family Selwood Forest.
In 1591, he built the ancient home at what is now known as 145 Westbury Leigh. Restoration work uncovered three irregular lumps above the hearth, and further inspection revealed 3 shields carved in relief. One inscribed 'ECA [Edward Cogswell and Alicia]' and another reads '1591' and the third bears the Cogswell cloth logo, the use of which became compulsory for clothiers. The house was privately restored during the 1980s by Peter and Mary Jones.

Note: John married Mary Bradstreet about 1655. He came over on the same ship with her and her father and mother. She was born in England in 1633. Most historians say this John married for his second wife Mary Jordan. This is an error.

Title: Desc. of Richard Kimball
Media: Book
Death: 6 MAY 1698 Ipswich, Essex, MA
Note: Came to America at the age of 11, on the "Elizabeth" with his parents and siblings.
In a deposition given by Richard in Salem MA in 1655 he claimed to have lived on "Goodman Shotsell's farm" for seven years. He was in Wenham MA by 1652 and is listed as one of the Early settlers there in the western part of town near Ladd's Hill. He was the largest taxpayer among the early settlers and many land transactions are noted. In Nov 1657 he subscribed £ 3 towards the "minister's rate" to be paid ½ in wheat and ½ in "Indian Corn". He served as selectman for most of the terms from 1658 to 1674 and sat on the Grand jury in 1661. He was on the 1660 committee for a new meeting house and, according to the inventory of his estate he was due 2.16.00 "wages from country" indicating that he probably served in the war with the Naragansetts (see narrative), and he may have been at Bloody Brook when his nephew Caleb was killed. The inventory of his estate totaled 986.16.6, indicating that he was a wealthy man at his death.
