Hallock, Joseph (b. , d. UNKNOWN)

Joseph Hallock, of the firm of Hallock & Smith, merchants of Brownville, was born in Dane Co., Wis., Feb. 14, 1851. He is the son of Youngs and Elizabeth Hallock, was brought up on a farm, receiving his primary education in the district school. He then entered the State University at Madison and attended that institution. He then took two terms at the State Normal School of Oshkosh, and qualified himself for the profession of teacher. He engaged in that business and taught during two winters in Wisconsin.
He came to Mitchell Co., Iowa in 1877, and engaged in teaching, which occupation he followed till April, 1882, when he engaged in mercantile business at Brownville, as a dealer in general merchandise. Nov. 13, 1882, he formed a partnership with Frank F. Smith, taking him into the business. These gentlemen are doing a good country trade. They are doing an extensive business in eggs and poultry.
Mr. Hallock was married at Brownville, July 3, 1879, to Zalinda M., daughter of Benjamin E. and Annie G. Judd. Mrs. Hallock was born in Kenosha Co., Wis. They have one child, a daughter -- Lulu M. Mr. Hallock was elected clerk of Burr Oak township in the fall of 1882, and is the present incumbent.

Note: Thomas Boodry was born in 1821, the sixth child of 1812 veteran Joseph Boodry and his wife Catherine. In 1860 he was a farmer in Rangeley Plantation, a widower with three children. On December 10, 1861, he enlisted from Rangeley in Company E, 13th Maine Infantry. He re-enlisted on February 29, 1864, and was transferred to Company B, 30th Maine Infantry, on January 5, 1865, when the 13th was mustered out. He received a disability discharge on July 21, 1865. He was married first to Nancy Lufkin, who died before 1860, and second to Eunice Abbott, a daughter of David B. Abbott. Boodry went west after the war and died on February 5, 1878, in Weyauwea, Wisconsin.
