Matilda Marie Hintz, age 89, of Oxford, died Saturday, Jan. 27, 2001 in Divine Savior Nursing Home, Portage, where she had been a resident for nearly five years.

She was born Feb. 9, 1911 in the town of Douglas, Marquette County, the daughter of Louis and Mary (Huber) Luger. She was a member of St. John's Evangelical Lutheran Church, Oxford. She was a 1928 graduate of Oxford High School and attended Westfield Normal in 1929. On March 14, 1931, she was united in marriage to Alfred F.W. Hintz in Coloma. Matilda is survived by her son, Milton (Elvera) Hintz of Oxford; one daughter, Betty Pekowsky of Monona; four grandchildren, Sheree Pekowsky, Mark (Vicki) Hintz, Melody (Derek) Roger and Laurie Pekowsky; seven great-grandchildren, Jennifer (Heath) Rush, Joshua Pekowsky, Matthew and Heather Hintz, Sarah, Chelsey and Trisha Roger; one brother, Faye (Arlene) Luger of Oxford; one sister, Lois Fellows of Yakima, Wash., and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, two sisters, Delores Scott and Velma Lloyd; one grandson, Michael Pekowsky; and one son-in-law, Donald Pekowsky. Funeral services will be held in St. John's Evengelican Lutheran Church, Oxford, at 11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 3. Friends may call at the church from 9:30 a.m. until time of service. Rev. David Totsky will officate. Burial will be in the Oxford Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to the church.
