LaFontaine
The name was not originally LaFontaine, but was Bernard/Menard in France. The patriarch was Pierre Bernard dit LaFontaine. Antoine LaFontaine, was one of the early settlers of Detroit and among the founding fathers of Monroe, Michigan, then known as Frenchtown. Antoine's obituary appeared in the Monroe paper after his death at 97 years of age reporting that he had been one of the few survivors and eyewitnesses of the River Raisin Massacre of 1812.
