Note: COLOMA — Leona “Peg” Verthein, age 94, of Coloma, passed away Sunday evening, October 24, 2004, at the Wild Rose Community Memorial Hospital where she had been admitted ten days prior.
She was born July 27, 1910 at Oxford, the daughter of Charles and Irene (Nickerson) Lloyd.
Peg graduated from Oxford High School and from Stevens Point Normal. She taught for a short time at Unity, Wisconsin before coming to Coloma Elementary, where she taught for 40 years.
She married Harold Verthein in 1940. Their son Larry arrived in 1947. Larry preceded her in death in 1967 and her husband in 1987.
Peg has been a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Coloma since 1948. She served as Sunday School Superintendent and she and Harold built shelves, painted and organized the first library at Prince of Peace. She also served as librarian at the church for approximately 20 years.
Peg is survived by her sister-in-law, Wilma Lloyd, Milwaukee; a nephew, Richard (Audrey) Lloyd, Arkansas; numerous great nephews and nieces, many former students and friends in Coloma and surrounding areas.
In addition to her son and husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers Hollis and Freeman Lloyd and one nephew William.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 30, 2004 at noon with the Rev. Kelli Fisher officiating. Burial will be in the Prince of Peace Cemetery. Visitation will be at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of services.

Note: John and Amy, and John's brother, Samuel, came over on the "Handmaid" on 10 Aug.1630, and arrived at Plymouth harbour in Mass. 29 Oct. 1630. The ship was in rough shape when it pulled into the harbour. It is told that John and Samuel Eddy went with Capt. Standish to Boston, but having no testimony they were not received and were sent back to Plymouth until they could get the proper papers. He removed to Watertown, Mass. in 1633 Freeman on 3 Sep. 1634.
