Wells, Thomas Deacon (b. 11 DEC 1605, d. 26 OCT 1666)
Note: Deacon Thomas Wells immigrated to Dorchester [Boston], Mass. on the "Susan and Ellen" in April 1635 from London with Richard Saltonstall. He took the Freeman's Oath at Boston in 7 May 1637 and was a commoner in 1641. He was one of the earliest English settlers of Ipswich, Mass. The Wells family in England is a very ancient origin and clearly traceable back to the time of the Norman conquest.

Andrews, Robert Captain (b. 1560, d. 1 MAR 1642/43)
Note: Captain & owner of the 'Angel Gabriel', of 240 tons of burden and carrying 16 guns. It was originally built for Sir Walter Raleigh, and sailed from Bristol, England. It came as a consort to the ship James in Aug. 1635. The 2 ships were caught in a terrible thunderstorm and parted company. The James first anchored near the Isles of Shoals and the 'Angel Gabriel' off Pemquid, on the coast of Maine. The James finally arrived 'rent in sunder and split in Pieces' in Boston Harbor. Rev. Richard Mather wrote in 1846 that 'The Angel Gabriel was the first vessel which miscarried with passengers from Old England to New.' Among the rescued passengers besides Capt. Andrewes and his family, were his three nephew, John, Robert and Thomas Burnham, sons of his sister, Mary, who had been under the charge of their uncle. These all, with a London merchant, John Cogswell, afterward settled in the town of Ipswich. Considerable grants were made there in 1635 to Mr. Coggswell and to Capt. Andrewes. Records of Ipswich show that he was made Freeman on 2 April 1635 and on 3 Sept 1635, Robt. Andrews licensed to 'keep ordinarye (an inn) in the Plantacon where he lives during the pleasure of ye court.' He was allowed to sell wine by retail, 'if he do not wittingly sell to such as abuse it by drunkenness.'
Death: 1 MAR 1642/43 Chebacco, Ipswich, Essex, MA
