Pickard, Lena Ann (b. 26 AUG 1873, d. 15 JAN 1954)
Note: PJ: 1/15/1954: Mrs. Lenna D. Haskins, 80, of 134 Lakeside Dr., Bemus Point, died at 5:30 a.m. today in the Bittersweet Convalescent Home following an extended illness. Mrs. Haskins was born in the Town of Ellery, Aug. 26, 1873, the daughter of the late Benjamin and Hilda Ames Pickard. She was a graduate of Jamestown High School and attended its training school for teachers. Mrs. Haskins taught school at Pickard Street and also at the Belleview School. She was married to Benjamin G. Haskins, Aug. 30, 1893. He preceded her in death in 1933. At the turn of the century, Mrs. Haskins, served as Postmistress at the Bemus Point Post Office. She was a charter member of the Bemus Methodist Church, the W.S.C.S. of the church, and was also a member of the Bemus Point Study Club. Surviving are a daughter, Mrs. Richard O. Evans, 134 Lakeside Drive, Bemus Point; a sister, Mrs. Bernice Wilson, Jamestown: one niece, Mrs. John Sawyer, Los Angeles, Calif.; three grandchildren, Susan, David and John Evans, Bemus Point. Friends may call at the Evans Funeral Home, here. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday from the Bemus Point Methodist Church. Rev. Charles Aldrich, of Erie, Pa. will officiate. Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.

PJ: 3/16/1946: Maple Springs: Mrs. Leah Culver Haskin, 75, wife of Claude D. Haskin, died at her home here on Friday at 10:30 p.m. She is also survived by a daughter Miss Lucille Haskin, at home, and five grandchildren. A son, Ralph Culver Haskin, died on Dec. 5, 1943 while serving with the U.S. Army in Australia. She had spent her entire lifetime in the Town of Ellery and was a member of the First Seventh Day Adventist Church of Jamestown, the Maple Springs Ladies Aid Society, and a life member of the Jolly Workers of Maple Springs, of which she was the first president. Funeral services will be held at the Maple Springs Community Church on Monday at 2 p.m. and, in connection with it, there will be a service in memory of her son, Ralph Culver Haskin. Rev. Orville D. Wright of Buffalo will officiate and interment will be in the Bemus Point Cemetery.

PJ: 12/16/1943: Maple Springs: Mrs. Ralph Haskin, 1518 Pontiac Street, East Cleveland, Ohio, has received word of the death of her husband,, Ralph Haskin, 48, Technician Wuartermaster Detachment Base secretary, who died Dec. 5, at Carines, Queensland, Australia. Besides his wife, Edith Lindholm Haskin, he leaves his parents Mr. and Mrs. Claude D. Haskin, Maple Springs; four sons, Richard Haskin at home, Pvt. Ralph Haskin Jr., Camp Livingston, La.; Sgt. Gordon J. Haskin stationed in Iran, and PFC Claude D. Haskin, prisoner of war in Germany, and a sister Miss Lucille Haskin, New York City. He was also a veteran of World War I, having served 22 months overseas as an engineer, and was a member of Ellery Memorial Post American Legion. Before his enlistment, Sept. 14, 1942 he was a mason by trade and resided at Maple Springs.

Haskin, Claude Darwin (b. 4 OCT 1921, d. 11 MAY 1962)

PJ: 5/11/1962: Claude D. Haskin, who took part in the invasion of North Africa and Sicily and spent 21 months as a prisoner of war in Germany, died at 1 a.m. today (May 11, 1962) at Jamestown General Hospital. Mr. Haskin made his home in Maple Springs. The 40 year old World War II veteran entered the hospital Tuesday to undergo abdominal surgery. Mr. Haskin, an office employee of Amstan Supply Division of American Standard, 712 W. 8th St., was born Oct. 4, 1921, in Maple Springs, the son of Ralph and Edith Lindholm Haskin. He attended Bemus Point High School. Mr. Haskin enlisted Jan. 17, 1941 and was stationed at Camp Blanding, Fla., before being sent overseas. As a private first class Co. B. 26th Infantry, First Division, he took part in eight major engagements in North Africa and Sicily including the battles of Kasserine Pass, Matteur, El Guetar, Bizerte and Bedja. Mr. Haskin was in the first company of troops to land on the shore of Sicily July 10, 1943. He was taken prisoner of war that same month and sent to Stalag 2-B in Germany where he remained for 21 months. He was released in April 1945. His father, who also served in the war as a Sergeant, died Dec. 1943 in Australia, while serving with the Quartermaster Corps. Mr. Haskin was a member of the Bemus Point Church of God and the Maple Springs Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include his wife, Martha Kesby Haskin; three daughters, Karen Althea, Deborah Leah and Ina Christine, all at home; his mother, Mrs. Edith Haskin, Maple Springs; three brothers, Ralph, Bemus Point, Gordon, Youngstown, Ohio, and Richard, Brocton. Services are to be held at 1 p.m. Monday from the Evans Funeral Home, Bemus Point, with Rev. LeRoy Apotosh, officiating. Burial will be in Bemus Point Cemetery.
