A DIGEST OF THE EARLY CONNECTICUT PROBATE RECORDS. 1745 to 1750 - Page 191
Will dated 24 September, 1744: I, Anthony Hoskins of Windsor, do make this my last will and testament: I having made provision for my loving wife Hannah during her life already, I further give her 1-3 of all my estate. And as I have already given to each of my children, Anthony, Alexander, Joseph, Hannah, Mabel, Amey, Sarah, Jane and Dorcas, by way of portion and settlement, what I have been able to, I have nothing further to give or bequeath to either of them. And therefore my son, Zebulon Hoskins, in consideration of my love to him and in respect that he is under some obligation further to do for his mother, and also for that he payed more than œ40 in old tenor money to the heirs of Samuel Allyn decd. for a debt which I owed to the sd. Allyn in his lifetime (and to secure the same to sd. Allyn I had given him a bond to secure to him the 5th part of the estate of my brother Joseph Hoskins at his decease, which œ40 was paid by my son Zebulon to redeem the same), I therefore hereby give and bequeath to him, his heirs and assigns, all my right, title and interest that I have to and in the lands now belonging to my brother Joseph Hoskins, or that I ever may have at his decease, the whole thereof, that my heirs may or might by any way or means claim or challenge to the same, the whole is to be to my son, Zebulon and his heirs forever. I appoint my son Zebulon to be my executor, and order him out of my estate to pay all my just debts.
Witness: Timothy Phelps, Isaac Skinner, Peletiah Mills.

Note: There are some sources who say that Anthony Hoskins was John Hoskins' nephew instead of his son.
Anthony Hoskins became a Freeman 18 May 1654 in Windsor, Conn. He also appears on the list of Freeman in Windsor 7 Oct 1669.
According to Spears, Anthony Hoskins was a well educated man, being one of 28 men who could write and who protested in Massachusetts against the pastor of the Windsor church. He was a Cavalryman in King Philip's War, for which he received land. He accumulated a great deal of land and died one of the richest men in Windsor. In 1660 he bought Bryan Rossiter's place. Estate was 984 pounds.
In 1656, he received a grant of land, with the condition that "if he leave the town before he hath settled himself in a dwelling house of his own, he is to leave it again to the town."
Vital Records [FHL 0002921] has an entry "Anthony Hoskins had 9 children born in Windsor. Dated Aug. 17, 1677. Windsor VR Vol. MG".
In his will, Anthony says "I give to my deceased daughter Isabell Alford all that I have given her and 2 shillings pay". He appoints "my son Jeremiah Alford" as a co-executor. Possibly Jeremy & Jeremiah Alford were the same person.

Death: 4 JAN 1706/07 Windsor, Hartford, CT
Note: Some sources say that Isabel was the daughter of Peter Browne of the Mayflower - that is NOT correct.
The Hoskins Genealogy says that she was the daughter of Peter Browne by his second wife. "The History of Ancient Windsor" by Henry R. Stiles, says that Isabel Brown, wife of Anthony Hoskins, is the SISTER of Peter Browne of Windsor. He cites the Old Church Records as his source. It's accepted Peter Browne of Windsor and Isabel were brother & sister.
Isabel & Peter could NOT have been the children of Peter Browne "of the Mayflower".
"American Marriages Before 1699" gives her name as "Jesabell Brown".
There are also family trees that say Isabel was the daughter of John & Dorothy Browne, but have never found any sources to prove this claim yet and probably not true.
