Geesink, Jan Derk (b. 10 MAR 1716/17, d. ?)
Note: This is the story of the Walvoord family according to Aunt Louise Walvoord:

"A wealthy, court official in Netherlands by the name of Walvoord had several servants. He was married, but he did not have any children. He wanted his name to live on so he made this offer to his two favorites servants. If they would marry and take his name, they would inherit his property. They accepted his offer, married and changed their name from Gozink [a.k.a. Gessink] to Walvoord.

All the Walvoords who came to America had money. Hendrik Walvoord bought land in the Town of Netherlands, Sheboygan County. They also had 29 shares in the Netherlands Trading Company at Amsterdam on Lake Michigan. Boats came to Amsterdam for the timber the pioneers cut from their land to clear it. The Walvoords had a general store then.

In 1856, Gerrett Jan was drowned in Lake Michigan at the pier. He left 5 children ganging in ages from 8 yrs. down to 3 mo. Henry, my father, was the oldest. His grandfather helped bring him up."
