Note: He was one of the early settlers in Canisteo, New York, and was a large land owner. He was Justice of the Peace for many years, Supervisor, County Judge for six years, and served in teh Revolutionary war in Pennsylvania.

Stevens, Phineas (b. ABT 1757, d. DEC 1812)
Note: Major Phineas Stephens, was probably born in Stillwater, New York. He married Mary Clark, and settled at Aurora, New York in 1806. He bought the mill site in the Lower Village, and built a saw and grist miss. He was Captain of the Silver Grays, and in the War of 1812 was the Major of the Silver Grays and died at Black Rock. He was taken to Willink and buried with military honors December 1812. Listed are his sons, he also had daughter

Stevens, Elijah (b. ABT 1770, d. 1840)
Note: Elijah Stephens, came to Canisteo, New YOrk in 1789 from Newtown (now Elmira), where he lived for a short time after the Wyoming Massacre in Pennsylvania. He became a large land owner. When the town of Hornellsville was formed in 1820 he was one of the first officers. He was a Mason.
